In putting together today’s contribution to In a Vase on Monday I was faced with too many choices. There are wonderful things happening in my garden, the most striking of which are the opening crape myrtles (Lagerstroemia cvv) and the continuing flowering of the chaste trees (Vitex agnus-castus). This arrangement is built around three crape myrtles and two different coneflowers (Echinacea purpurea cvv).
Included in the arrangement are (from left to right) crape myrtles ‘Osage,’ ‘Tuscarora,’ and an unidentified watermelon colored one. Three newly blooming stalks of Pennisetum setaceum Purple Fountain Grass ‘Rubrum’ fill in the background. The purple flowers are Vitex agnus-castus ‘Shoal Creek.’ The lacy flowers above the coneflowers are from Heuchera dolce ‘Beaujolais.’
In front are coneflowers ‘Magnus’ and ‘White Swan.’ Adding more pink and white are sprigs of Weigela florida ‘Bokrasopea’ (Sonic Bloom Pearl), a newly found reblooming weigela.
The vase is a silver water pitcher, a treasured wedding gift lo those many moons ago. Once again I am grateful for my wife for her assistance in putting the arrangement together.
