In a Vase on Monday: After the Rain

I awoke this morning to a light drizzle. Within an hour it had become a downpour and dragged on until afternoon…over a half inch of welcome water for my garden. I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to collect a few pickings from the garden to participate In a Vase on Monday this week. The rain stopped. I slogged about the garden and cut a few things that weren’t bent over from the heavy rain.

I always try to take these photographs with natural light, placing the arrangement near the open front door. Today, despite the heavily overcast skies, there was just enough light to capture the colors in today’s offering. Once again I give full credit to my wife for creating this arrangement from today’s blooms in the garden.

At the back of the arrangement are seed pods from an heirloom (and unidentified) Chaste tree (Vitex agnus-castus), several blooms stalks from purple fountain grass (Pennisetum setaceum), and purple loropetalum ‘Rubra” (Loropetalum chinense). The flowers are ‘Becky’ Shasta daisies (Leucanthemum superbum), unidentified Calla lilies (Zantedeschia aethiopica), and a wonderful blue “grocery store” Hydrangea macrophylla.

Your wife has a way with flowers John. The arrangement is nicely balanced and the vase works well with all the colors. Susie

Tucker thanks you for the compliment. She loves to arrange…studied ikebana many years ago. In a Vase on Monday gives her the opportunity to bring out some old skills.
