Instead of one arrangement for this week’s edition of In a Vase on Monday, I offer a golden tray of nine miniature vases in which to display the Encore azaleas that are in bloom in my garden today.
I have become a great fan of these reblooming Encore azaleas as indicated by the number of different ones growing in my garden. I find that the pale pastel colors are enchanting, and the ability to have another azalea “season” in the fall is priceless. Once established they require only a minimum of maintenance…an occasional prune of a wayward stem and a bit of azalea food in late winter and after the spring bloom. And my back appreciates that there is rarely any stoop labor required. Right now they are the prime contributors of color in my garden. Three cheers for the hybridizer who created this wonderful series of azalea cultivars (and continues to add new ones with each season).
This collection consists of: ‘Autumn Carnation,’ ‘Autumn Carnival,’ ‘Autumn Debutante,’ ‘Autumn Empress,’ ‘Autumn Moonlight,’ ‘Autumn Rouge,’ ‘Autumn Royalty,’ ‘Autumn Sangria,’ and ‘Autumn Twist.’

Very pretty and effectively displayed. Though I’m not a fan of reblooming plants, I can appreciate your enthusiasm for them. These are certainly very tempting.

Thanks, Marian. I would be interested to know why you aren’t a fan of rebloomers.

I’ve noticed a few of these reblooming azalea’s in our neighborhood recently, and would really like to add some to my garden. It could use some dependable color right about now!

I like using miniature vases too – and this is a perfect way to display and appreciate your range of azalea blooms. I had azaleas in my former garden and miss having them in my current, hotter, drier garden. Alas, they need more water than I can reasonably provide given our severe drought so I’ll enjoy yours.

I’m not usually very fond of Azeleas but these look charming; I’m not aware that any re-blooming varieties are available here. I like the way you’ve displayed them too; individual vases can work so well, I’d never thought of using them until this meme started.

Thanks, Christina. Having reblooming azaleas (and other plants that rebloom) has changed the way I choose what goes in my garden. Hope you may be able to find similar plants there, if you are interested.
