For my weekly offering for In a Vase on Monday I am pleased to present a single column of ‘Immortality’ bearded iris. There are many plants blooming in my garden right now that have appeared in recent Monday postings, so I thought it might be appropriate to spotlight this one beauty that opened this week. It is such a pleasure to have iris blooming in autumn. This is the first to bloom this fall, but there are more coming.
I have been growing ‘Immortality’ for over fifteen years in two gardens, and it has reliably rebloomed each year. One of the characteristics that it shares with other remontat (reblooming) iris is that it multiplies quite rapidly, often needing dividing in two years. You may want to see my July 26 post in which I captured the division and replanting of ‘Immortality.’ It is from that replanting that this flowering scape came.
Please click on In a Vase on Monday to visit the delightful postings of Cathy, the originator of this meme, at Rambling in the Garden. Her weekly challenge gives us the opportunity to share what is in bloom in our garden.
The bearded iris was my grandmother’s favorite, so it holds a special place in my heart.

Thanks, Marion. I think bearded iris are among the most beautiful of perennials (and easy to care for). I just wish I had more space for them.

My I. Immortality re-flowered for the first time this year, it is such a beauty and perfect in a vase too. Mine aren’t multiplying as quickly as I would like but hopefully the new blooms are a good sign.

Thanks, Christina. Your friends will love you for all the divisions you will be giving them in future years. Just have patience (a hard commodity, of course, for us gardeners).

Wow – I love the purity of this, John. It’s stunning – and definitely doesn’t need anything else. Tell me, did the Arranger have to arrange this one for you…?! 🙂

I did the heavy lifting; my Arranger selected the vase and the silver tray.

There are a number of them available here now. I have a blue/white combo one that is in bud stage and should be photographed soon.

John how wonderful to see Immortality again as mine finished blooming in spring and it never reblooms here due to our cool fall. Lovely!

Simply beautiful! There is something about white flowers that makes them special and this one certainly needs no adornments.
