This week’s topic for the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is Symmetry. I’m offering a photo of the calyx of Hibiscus ‘Midnight Marvel,’ what is left after the flower fades and drops. The calyx remains for several days. Is that a halo around the seed head?

What a perfect flower 😉 So sorry to see your saturated garden. I’m glad it is water and not ice! Best wishes, WG

Thanks, WG. Looks like we are in for very cold weather for the next week (at least for our part of the world), but the water has subsided somewhat.

Yes, John, and it makes us so grateful to live in the mid-Atlantic and not New England! This series of storms has caused such damage to those along the coast. There has been high water here and wind damage, but nothing like what’s been further north. We heard there was an odd launch of something earlier this week somewhere around Moorehead City – which was photographed, and just sort of disintegrated. Has that been in your local news? Sounds like it came from North of Jacksonville and went over the Hatteras/ Ocracoke area. Have you heard anything? Hope this extreme cold doesn’t damage your more tender plants. Happy Valentine’s Day 😉 WG woodlandgnome@zoho.com

I haven’t heard anything here about an odd activity near Moorehead City. Will keep my ear opened.

😉 Just a fleeting mention on the Weather Channel a couple of days ago- nothing on the local news. Since that is your area, I hoped you might have seen something in the news. Thank you, John- E
