It’s nice to be back in the blogosphere after a few days absence due to travel. It’s always good to sleep in ones own bed, and it is especially delightful to discover on our return that the hellebores are opening to give us something new to put In a Vase on Monday. The rain yesterday leaves my garden still water-logged, but it’s noticeably warmer and my spirits are lifting.
These are Helleborus orientalis ‘Elegance” and (on the right) an unidentified variety, whose name was lost in our move from Chapel Hill over nine years ago. They are arranged in a simple vase on a silver butter dish, another of my Arranger’s family heirlooms.
Let me invite you to visit Cathy at Rambling in the Garden, the host of this meme, to see what she and others are putting in their vases this day.
Beautiful! Regretting I didn’t get more Hellebores into the ground late fall. Thanks for letting me enjoy yours.

You are welcome, Stepheny. I have dozens in the seedling stage around the parents. I’ll try to pot some up for you.

Your arranger did jolly well today, this looks so elegant John. The gardener did pretty well too!

Julie already used the word I was going to use to describe your lovely hellebores – Elegant, well done arranger.

What lovely markings their little faces have. Hellebores always look shy, but are so sturdy and a very welcome sight peeking out from under the snow. Best wishes, WG

Thank you, WG. We hope we have seen the last of snow.

Well, if Dallas has snow today, I’m not too hopeful that we won’t get a brush of it, too. I hope your garden warms soon 🙂

Thanks, Cathy. Selecting the vase was the hardest decision. The hellebores speak for themselves.

Hellebores are blooming and a perfect selection and look fabulous in that vase. Once mine are blooming in April, I am sure I will choose some for a vase too.

That is a pretty arrangement. I never thought to bring hellebore inside, it makes a very nice showing.

This is the first time we have tried to bring them inside. They are lovely, yes, but it looks like they will not last very long.

They are lovely hellebores and I love your arrangement. Do you have a trick to keep them from wilting? I never have much luck with hellebores in arrangements.

Sadly, Chloris, they have already started to wilt. Perhaps someone out there knows how to make them last a bit longer and will share that with us.

I have heard that they last better in water if you pick them when they are quite mature and the seed pods are forming. The trouble is they don’ t look so pretty once they have shed their stamens.

That hellebore certainly lives up to its name and the vase is perfect. It is always nice to return home to something new n the garden, but especially so at this time of year!
