Over the past week all my herbaceous peonies have come into bloom. Creating a Vase this week centered around one of my Arranger’s favorites was an easy decision.
This peony was given to me almost twenty years ago by my Aunt Martha in Chatham, VA, who obtained it from my grandmother. I have no way to know its name, but I do consider it to be an “heirloom” peony, having been handed down in my family for many generations.
My Arranger and I both love the shade of pink in this one. Also included in the arrangement are Cornus kousa, now coming into full bloom in my garden, and the very last blooms of ‘Caesar’s Brother’ Iris sibirica. This has been a particularly good year for ‘Caesar’s Brother,’ and I will miss their deep lavender until next spring.
Once again my thanks go to Cathy at Rambling in the Garden who invites us each week to share in a vase something from our gardens. Please visit her site to see what she and others have selected from their gardens this week.
What a beautiful peony! I like the color combo too.

Thank you, Marian. We have so many in bloom right now, it’s hard to select just one.

John you and your Arranger have picked fabulous blooms. I adore heirloom peonies…they are the best and I wish I had taken the over 50 yr old ones from the old house. I kick myself to this day.

This one has been moved several times and seems none the less for wear. They are pretty sturdy plants once they are settled.

Oh it is indeed a gorgeous peony, and beautifully arranged. Is it on a flat dish or is it a shallow bowl? Thanks to both you and the Arranger for sharing

Thank you, Cathy. It is a shallow dish with a frog.

Peonies are on my list of “most covered plants” and yours are exceptionally pretty. I love the story behind them too. Thanks for sharing!

That is so cool to have such a long history behind the pretty peony. That iris is such a fabulous color and it looks great with the Kousa.
