Yesterday was Garden Bloggers Bloom Day, sponsored by Carol at May Dreams Gardens. I hope all will forgive me for overlooking two of the most beautiful blooms in my garden. Better late than….
The white kousa dogwood (Cornus kousa) is covered with blooms. Once again this year like so many plants in my garden, the kousa seems to be having its best showing. Should I ask again, was it our cold winter?
My Arranger spied a new hydrangea this spring when we were shopping around at one of our favorite garden centers. Her eyes fell on a plant that she immediately had to buy. It is a Shooting Star hydrangea, a form I have never before seen. Research informs me that it is a Hydrangea macrophylla, introduced into this country as H.m. ‘Hanabi,’ but renamed ‘Shooting Star’ (I’ve also seen it called ‘Fuji Waterfall’). Regardless of its name, it is a beauty in a pot on our screened porch. It draws rave comments from visitors. I was remiss in not including it in my May GBBD report.
Your post is perfect timing. Daughter Claire wanting your dogwood. I will send this on to her. Beautiful!

Please tell Claire that she will love it. It seems to like a lot of sun, and they have just the spot I’m sure.

I love dogwood and so miss the beauties in PA. Up here, dogwood is a bit iffy.

This is the first time we’ve had a kousa dogwood in the garden, and we are very pleased with its performance.

I’m so glad you added this post John, as I didn’t get round to commenting on how lovely everything is looking in yesterday’s post! You are way ahead of us now, with our peonies only just raring to go. I really love that new Hydrangea. Your arranger has such excellent taste!

Thanks, Cathy. The same from my Arranger. We love to find new things to plant in the garden. Some turn out okay, others end in the compost pile, but it is fun to try.

Thank you, Jason. I am excited to see how the hydrangea does over time. Like anything new in my garden, I have to learn.
