It’s time for In a Vase on Monday, an invitation from Cathy at Rambling in the Garden to share what is in bloom in our garden this day.
We chose the first oak leaf hydrangeas and ‘Twist and Shout’ hydrangeas to build around and added ‘Anthony Waterer’ spirea and ‘General Sikorski’ clematis, with a dash of Cleyera japonica foliage for good measure.
My Arranger added the small cobalt blue vase with gold lantana ‘Compact Bullion’ to match the large vase of the arrangement.

Thank you, Cathy. Clematis is difficult to use in arrangements. Their stems are usually quite short and convoluted; it’s a challenge but when they work they add so much with their lovely colors.

The most perfect weather for gardens here in North Carolina. Nothing better than selecting these beautiful blooms for a lovely arrangement. Now, how about some sweet tea on the screen porch, a good book, glancing at the garden, and friends.

Very nice! I never thought of using Clematis as a cut flower. Does it last long?

I waited to respond to you, Jason, until the clematis began dropping its petals this morning. That makes five days in the vase. I suspect a factor is how fresh is the bloom on the vine when cut. A just opening flower should last longer.

Be careful what you wish for, John. We are watching the tragedy in TX and other areas who have too much rain. I’m watering daily now, and watching transplants wither in the heat. Too hot too fast for most of the garden to adjust properly- or the gardeners. Hope you get gentle rains soon, and that we do, too 😉 Best wishes, WG

That is just about the right amount, too, for any one day. Enough to soak in, but no harm done. Our’s yesterday was around .02 😉 But we got good rain the day before. Hope everything is perking up in your garden 😉 WG
