Weekly Photo Challenge: On the Way

The theme of this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is ON THE WAY.

“On the way” to the Charlotte Symphony a few weeks ago, I spied this thought provoking sculpture by artist Aurora Robson, entitled Jetsam 2015. The sculpture was created entirely of plastic debris. Concerning the sculpture, Robson wrote, “It is intended to motivate us to reduce our plastic footprints.”

The sculpture was on view as part of the Bank of America “Recycle Now Challenge.”

Fabulous sculpture – and it seems to echo your header as well! It’s a good challenge, John, isn’t it?

It was an amazing sight to see. At first I thought it was the bug from outer space.

  3. Looks like a sea creature to me. Makes me sad to think about all the plastic in the oceans. Everytime we have a big rain, I see plastic bottles and styrofoam cups floating down the Reedy River. Inexcusable!

Inexcusable is the right word. I’ve seen a sea change in my lifetime from a time when there was no awareness, no motivation to stop throwing trash about to at least a time when the percentage of trashers is decreasing. Maybe sometime….

It looks to be the work of a talented artist, and the quality of its construction show that…. but I just don’t like it. I suspect that might be part of the artist’s intention? I’ll be thinking about all the unintentional plastic I come across today, so it appears the artist’s message was received loud and clear!

  10. It looks so organic! It takes close examination to recognize it is made entirely from plastic. Brilliant!

I thought it looked like the bug from outer space. The artist’s aim to make us think was sure met.

      • definitely! It looks like a sea creature, to me. Perhaps it is all the blues, and the anemone like shapes sprouting from the sides. It always makes me happy when people can find beauty in those things originally not very beautiful…..
