My Arranger and I are delighted with the return of the hydrangeas to bloom here on the first day of June…and on a Monday no less. How appropriate to select some of the new blooms on ‘Endless Summer’ hydrangea to fill this week’s Vase.

My Arranger says, “Nothing says summer like hydrangeas in a silver bowl.”
Please visit Cathy at Rambling in the Garden to see what she and others are including in their vases this week.

I couldn’t agree more and wish we had more here but they are iffy with our weather many times not blooming at all. Love the blues which will not grow here due to our clay soil….if I get any they are pink!

We put magnesium sulfate on the macrophylla hydrangeas to change them to blue, as we have clay in abundance. It’s interesting that we often will have blue to pink on the same plant.

And she’s absolutely right! Even someone who isn’t mad about them can delight in those gorgeous flowers you’ve photographed. Maybe you have a convert?

I wish you could too, but there are so many things you can grow that I can’t.

Hydrangeas and silver – can it get any better? My hydrangeas will not flower for at least another month so I tend to think of them as belonging to late summer, but with your warmer climate I can see why they spell summer to you.

In a silver bowl the hydrangeas are positively opulent! Lovely, I am thinking of trying one in a large pot on the terrace where they would have some shade. Do you grow yours in sun or shade John? .

Thank you, Christina. Most of my hydrangeas grow in partial shade, none in full sun.
