This week’s In a Vase on Monday features a surprise (at least to me). A most unexpected event in my garden is the blooming of bearded iris ‘Clarence’ on this the first day of summer. It just had to take an important role in this week’s arrangement.
‘Clarence’ was beautiful and prolific in the garden in the spring, but I didn’t expect it to rebloom until the fall. The lavender in the falls is somewhat paler than the spring version, but nonetheless attractive.
Other players in the arrangement are a lace cap hydrangea and Becky daisies, backed by the lavender of the chaste tree. We have used the cobalt blue vase on many occasions, and the colors this week seemed to beg for its use once again.
Another perspective from above:
I want to add a brief photgraphic report on the pink calla lilies featured in our post two weeks ago. These have been in a vase for fourteen days now and still look as fresh as when they were cut.
Do you think there is a high probability that I just might be planting more calla lilies in the future?

I love the lavender edges on that iris – picked out very nicely with the lavender chaste flowers behind it. Lovely to have such a nice surprise, and very sensible to cut it before the heat gets to it.

It is so surprising to see Iris and hydrangea in the same vase, good for you for taking advantage of the re-blooming. Great selection of blooms and I do like how the daisies add a touch of warmth to an otherwise cool arrangement.

I also had a bearded iris pop up late with one bloom…love the pale purple in yours and the surrounding flowers make a gorgeous vase. Nothing beats calla lilies in a vase and I so wish we could grow them.

Do irises rebloom? I don’t know a lot about irises, but what a great bonus! The hydrangea picks up the hints of lavender colours beautiful, and WOW, those callas!

Thanks, Cathy. I have been in love with reblooming iris for some time now. You may want to go to http://www.rebloomingiris.com/ for galleries of rebloomers. I hope you can find them there as they are indeed a treat to have them blooming in the fall. I had two bloom as late as the first week in December. PS: the callas are still going.
