We have just completed a wonderful week of “Camp Grammy” with our six year old granddaughter from California and a fun time with my extended family on the 4th of July. Two new babies (one month and four months old) in my cousins’ families were the stars of the day. Welcoming a new generation coming along in our extended family is indeed cause for celebration.
Another cause f0r celebration is the presence of flowers in bloom this week in the garden, just the right timing to fill this week’s vase. A bit of rain has helped, and I’m grateful that the rabbits must be eating elsewhere right now (maybe that smelly stuff I put around has been working).
Included in this week’s vase are two hydrangeas (‘Endless Summer’ and ‘Blushing Bride’), two garden phlox (an unidentified pink one that I have moved now into its third garden and Phlox paniculata ‘Violet Flame’), Becky daisies, and ‘Homestead Purple’ verbena.
Daylily Daquiri
I selected two blossoms of one of my favorite daylilies, ‘Daquiri.’ This has been its best blooming year in this garden, although it is almost finished for the season. I carefully chose two scapes with their last blooms; there are still a few more to come
I won’t bore you with yet another picture, but the calla lillies are still presentable in their vase after FOUR weeks!

Thanks, Donna. I suspect hydrangeas are going to be seen quite a bit this summer, as my phlox is also being served for dinner…in my case it’s the rabbits eating them before they can get up to deer level.

Beautiful – I esp. love the hydrangea. Deer have been eating my phlox to nubs, I’m crossing my fingers that they leave the daylily buds alone!

Grrrr. Those pesky rabbits. I left a whole tray of sweet peas outside ready for planting and they nibbled the lot right down to the base of each plant. They all grew back better than ever though… lets hope that happens with your phlox! Beautiful blooms despite the pests!

Gorgeous flowers – perfect for a summertime celebration. I wish I could grow hydrangeas, but alas, it is too hot and dry in my Texas garden for them to thrive. I’ve had to make due with some zinnias, plumbago, and shasta daisies for my July celebration vase instead (though I secretly wish I could throw in some blue or white hydrangeas into the mix).
