Weekly Photo Challenge: Beneath-Your-Feet

The theme of this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is BENEATH-YOUR-FEET.

I have just returned from a week at Topsail Island, North Carolina. Here is something I came upon while strolling on the beach:

One can only wonder what is going on under the beach under my feet. What sea creature has created this entry to its lair under the sand? Is it about to come out? Is it having lunch (as I was about to)? What might be its prey? How did it know to place its entrance above high tide level? Many questions, of course, but, alas, I didn’t stay long enough to find out. The lunch bell was ringing.

Come back after dark with a flash light and a bucket and you will have dinner for one more night. It is a ghost crab hole or maybe a blue crab hole.

  4. That is a curious hole, maybe your first commenter is right and it is a crab. Anyway, you have your priorities straight – never miss lunch!
