Helen at The Patient Gardener has invited us to present a review of our gardens at the end of each month. We are finally getting over the intense heat and lack of water we experienced over the summer, and things seem to be coming back. For this month’s review I have elected to create panorama views of two sides of my back garden rather than offer a large number of individual photos. I climbed a ladder to get views over the Japanese maple which dominates the center of the garden.
The west side of the garden receives morning sun and remains sunny until later afternoon when shade comes from the woods behind.
The east side, shaded until late morning by the house, receives afternoon sun until early evening.
The panoramas are a bit distorted in that the borders form an ellipse around the Japanese maple. You can click on the pictures to enlarge them for a closer look.
Please visit Helen at The Patient Gardener for a review of her garden at the end of August.
Looks very inviting, green and leafy.

Thank you, Jason. We are getting just a hint of cooler weather. Now all we need is a regular dose of rain.

It is good to see these wide views of your garden; your planting is stunning. Is the tree on the left side of the top image the Vitex agnus castus? I’ve actually tracked on down to add to the new planting in the garden, so I’m so glad you posted about it and I was able to see one in flower when I was visiting Susie.

Thanks, Christina. The tree is indeed a vitex. I just had the top trimmed to try to get rid of the spent flowers. It is in the process of putting out new growth which should rebloom. I may have waited a bit too long to trim it. The one on the left in the bottom panorama is also a vitex…one started from cuttings from my aunt’s VA garden…and it is just starting to rebloom.
