The crape myrtles in my garden are still going strong. Several of them are blooming much later than in previous years. I believe it may have something to do with the intense level of summer heat and lack of regular rain showers. Whatever the reason, I am delighted to have them still blooming their heads off now, and so it only seems appropriate to highlight them in this week’s In a Vase on Monday, sponsored by Cathy at Rambling in the Garden.
I don’t know the name of the pink one, but I always refer to it as my ‘Watermelon Pink’ crape myrtle. The purple one is ‘Catawba.’
My Arranger suggested that we locate the arrangement on our front porch. It takes a winning place between our two rocking chairs, a spot where we often find ourselves on a late afternoon watching the crowds pass on their way home. A glass of wine makes it close to perfection.

The blue vase is striking; I’m going to move my Crape Myrtles because I think it is too dry for them on the slope and they might do better in another position. I like your aperitvo spot, it looks ideal – cheers!

These are flowers I miss from warmer climates, though the rose garden does have some. The bright colors look fabulous with the deep blue vase. Your porch is a great place for them.

Those colors are great. We’re just a little too far north for them and it’s one of those plants I wish I could grow!

Don’t be sad; you can grow things there that we can’t because of the heat e.g., most traditional lilacs).
