The theme of this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is EARTH.

The beautiful multi-colored trunk of this crape myrtle pulls ones eyes down to the earth that sustains it.

    The roots of the trees always amaze me. We can never see the true extent of their depth as they lay safely hidden in Mother Earth.

    Wow… This tree almost looks like a clever sculpture, though I’m sure had a human tried to sculpture it, it wouldn’t be as good…

      Thanks, Janet. Many, but not all, crape myrtles have bark coloring like this one. The color can be striking…others are rather gray and blah. It all depends on the cultivar.

    I almost thought Eucalyptus at first with the striated bark since I never see myrtles like that. Very pretty.

    Yes, it does pull the eyes down, and even though I’m sitting far away, in a chair in a multi-story building, I feel grounded, as though my own roots reach down into the Earth. Thank you for this image and the comfort it brings.

    Stunning tree bark. The roots are unusual. I can see how writers are inspired to make magical stories around forests and trees. It’s a beauty!
