In a Vase on Monday: Anthony Waterer

I have seven ‘Anthony Waterer’ spirea plants throughout my garden. They are in full bloom now, and it seems appropriate to make them the star of this week’s In a Vase on Monday, hosted by Cathy at Rambling in the Garden.

One of the reasons I like ‘Anthony Waterer’ is that it will give me a full rebloom if I deadhead it. Several years it has even produced a partial third rebloom if we have a late frost. Butterflies and bees seem to love it as well.

IMG_0873My Arranger suggested we add the little lamb to make sure the readers appreciate her kitchen credo.

  1. John what a fabulous spirea and it reblooms too. The spirea flowers make a perfect vase.

I don’t know much about as my partner does it so beautifully, but I love reading your posts and seeing your pictures. Your enthusiasm really comes across.

Oh, lovely, John – are the blooms as dark as your vase suggests, or is it the true colour we see on the bush?

The spirea looks lovely as a cut flower.

It really is the deepest colour – better than any ‘Anthony Waterer’ I’ve ever seen. Either your soil or your green fingers! And looking stunning in your kitchen. I am knee deep in dishes this morning after a dinner party last night, so I totally agree with the Arranger’s philosophy …

This is a revelation John – I have never even thought of cutting Spirea for a vase. I wonder if mine might also reflower… I have no idea what sort they are as they were here when we came. Yours are such a lovely deep pink, and the setting for the photo is ideal to show them off to full effect!
