I am happy to offer some new things blooming in our garden this week. It’s time for In a Vase on Monday, hosted by Cathy at Rambling in the Garden.
Exciting color has exploded here as the chaste trees, and garden phloxes have come to life.
The chaste tree (Vitex agnus-castus) is a family heirloom grown from cuttings taken from my aunt’s garden in Chatham, VA. The white phlox is ‘David’. I found the pink one in a garden shop in Falls Church, VA over thirty years ago; it was labeled “Pink Phlox.” Despite its unknown heritage, it has survived at least ten moves and divisions in three gardens. It is a winner. The blue hydrangea is ‘Endliess Summer,’ probably my most reliable hydrangea.
Please visit Cathy at Rambling in the Garden to see her beautiful vase this week and that of others who join in sharing the bounty of their gardens.
That is lovely.

Lovely, vase John; I am excitedly waiting for my Vitex to bloom after planting it last autumn. Seeing it when I was in N. Carolina and on your blog was what made me buy it, I don’t think I’ll have enough blooms this year to cut any for a vase, perhaps next! Your look wonderful.

Beautiful! I love them all but I think if heaven has a smell it is the scent of Tall Phlox.

Lovely vase John! I have fond memories of a number of Vitex lining a path in another garden – I think they were grown as standards and seem to remember the autumn colour was lovely too? So lovely, but I doubt they would grow here. And what can one say about your blue hydrangea (perfect with the spires of the Vitex)?

That is a beautiful summer arrangement, practically a fourth of July celebration! Love the phlox, great that it’s so reliable, not all of them are.

You must love that phlox to have have taken it with you 10 times when you moved – I suspect you might have had a removal van full of plannts every time you moved… 😉 Too early for phlox in the UK yet so it’s lovely to see yours – thanks for sharing and to The Arranger for arranging.

Thank you, Cathy. I wish I knew the name of the phlox, but it surely has been a good one for us in our gardens.
