We are just back from seeing my first granddaughter get married. It was special being with family and seeing the absolutely most beautiful bride of all (at least since my Arranger walked down the aisle). I returned to find my chaste tree (Vitex agnus-castus) starting to bloom for the second time this season. That it is an heirloom vitex from my Aunt Martha’s, and it is responding wonderfully to deadheading (just a few weeks ago). Heirloom plants and family weddings seem to go together to put something special in our lives.
I added a few blossoms of our annual mandevilla for color contrast.
They were placed in a Mason jar, pure and simple.
I am happy on this Labor Day holiday to join Cathy at Rambling in the Garden for her weekly meme.
The blooms are simple, but most attractive. Do they always give the impression of revolving anti-clockwise, or is that optical illusion from the photo?

Thanks. It must be an optical illusion.

Right! But, then, left as well! 🙂

Congratulations to your family. I like that the vitex rebloomed just at the right time to tie in with the wedding.

Thank you, Susie. I’d love to say that I planned it that way, but my granddaughter did her planning independantly.

I wish my own Vitex trifolia produced blooms that pretty!

Thanks, Kris. This is a plant started by cuttings from my aunt’s garden in VA. I have no idea its name.

Thanks. My Arranger and I had a brief discussion about the Mason jar and I guess you could say I finally won one.

Sorry, I meant to add, it is so dry here in SW France that we are struggling to find anything to pick in the garden at all.

I don’t know vitex and must look it up – it pairs very well with the mandevilla. Glad you enjoyed your special family occasion

I’m not sure if you have it there, but if so, it is a grand plant.

Saw your visit to KITAP DÜNYASI. Father and I left Miami and now in Greensboro, NC since Jan 2014. What a delightful change and decent friendly people. My son is here. He graduated from Guilford College 2004.

How exciting to see your grand-daughter married. I always love seeing your Vitex, mine, as I mentioned before is a dirty white rather than the gorgeous blue of yours.

I am encouraged that it reblooms after deadheading. A real lift for this time of year in the garden.
