The theme of this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is REPURPOSE.
I do a lot of repurposing of things to use in my garden. Take something created for a specific purpose and, instead of throwing it into the refuse bin when its original usefulness is over, find a new purpose for it.
My Arranger was about to discard her bowling ball (with which she has won several trophies), but I salvaged it and repurposed it as a garden ornament. You can pay $50-$100 for the popular ceramic globes at a garden center; this one is certainly as beautiful, will probably last for centuries, and it is free!
What does one do with played out tennis balls? Give some to a kid to throw around, or put them in the bin at the tennis center. I found a better use. Fill the bottom of a flower pot with a number of tennis balls before putting in the soil. You save on soil and the pot is easier to lift, and the drainage is better.

Love your ideas on the tennis balls. My dogs can only chase so many!

It’s personally rewarding to find something to do with stuff I normally would throw away.

Old bowling balls are easy to give away…it’s the finger holes. I wouldn’t have used a solid black one in the garden, but I guess one could if you like that non-color.

They last several years in a pot before I have to replace them…but I have plenty with which to do it.

Thanks, Tina. If you hang around the tennis world, there are always tired tennis balls available.

Great ideas John; the bowling ball is very stylish and holds good memories, much better than a garden centre purchase!
