The theme of this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is THE ROAD TAKEN, in which we are to portray something along the way that touched or surprised us.
Last weekend we visited Caesars Head State Park in the mountains of South Carolina. In retreating from the summit…and the gorgeous view…we departed through this cleft in the mountain stone.
The cleft was natural, narrow, intriguing, deep (over twice my height) and not much wider than my shoulders.

Claustrophobic at all, John??? 🙂

Not really, I was moving fairly fast.

We have some narrow roads cut into the Tuffo around us, they were made by the Etruscans over 2.000 years ago so it is always thought provoking when we drive through them.

I have a feeling that the cleft in the picture may be millions of years old, but certainly not as attractive as the Etruscan roads.

It was about 12-15 feet…a long way to drop. Fortunately, they had built steps to get down to it.

This makes me think of Franconia Notch up in New Hampshire. Tight squeeze for a great hike.

New Hampshire is one of the few states I have not visited in my life. Maybe one day…..
