In a Vase on Monday: Iris

I missed In a Vase on Monday last week (I do hope that Cathy at Rambling in the Garden will forgive me); busyness gets the best of me sometime. However, I will try to make up this week by sharing two vases, both of which feature irises in bloom now in the garden.

The irises are Iris sibirica ‘Caesar’s Brother’ and bearded iris ‘Clarence.’ The supporting cast include Salvia nemerosa ‘May Night’ and Virburnum plicata var tomentosa ‘Summer Snowflake.’

The second simple vase includes an encore with ‘Clarence’ and ‘Summer Snowflake.’

Please visit Cathy at Rambling in the Garden to see what she is sharing this week. There are many beautiful vases out there, and we are grateful to Cathy for thinking of this grand idea.

There is nothing like fresh flowers to brighten a home, especially flowers from one’s own gardens. Have a wonderful week.

Delightful! The pretty viburnum is a lovely companion for those irises – I especially like Clarence. 🙂

Firstly John, Congratulations on your 500th post, I’m sorry I didn’t have time to comment but life has been rather hectic in the last couple of weeks. Love your Irises which are beautifully arranged. My irises are also just beginning in the garden so across many miles we are enjoying the same things at the same time.

  7. I love the restrained choice of two hues in their varying tones. That deep purple iris is a stunner (and I am getting a sense that I have made similar comments on its loveliness in previous years!)

Clarence’s pure white really brings out the gorgeous shades of your irises, John – such a great contrast. Reblooming irises sound a good idea – which type do that?

What a treat – lots of blues (that Iris sibirica is a truly luscious colour, isn’t it?). But in spite of the glory of the irises, the really pretty stalwart there was ‘Summer Snowflake’ – and it does this on and off during the summer?
