It is late on a lovely Monday in our garden, but it’s not too late to share some of the flowers that are catching the eye. Our peonies are featured this week, but I must lament that this has not been a good peony season for us. The number budding out is significantly reduced from previous years (weather?), and a heavy rain came at just the wrong time to knock what we did have earthward. A few have made it and are included in this arrangement.
All of these peonies have been handed down from my grandmother’s garden. Their identity has been long lost. The filler of the week is spirea ‘Anthony Waterer. A view from overhead:
The last of the spring blooms of bearded iris ‘Clarence’ makes its way one more time into a vase this week. It is nice to have three blooms open on one stalk at the same time. I am expecting it to return to bloom in late summer and will, of course, share it again.

A Walk in the Garden 
The spirea is a perfect companion to the peonies John. It’s heartwarming that you are growing peonies from your grandmother. I’ve had mixed luck with my peonies this year. The wind and rain ruined much of the display.

How nice to have mixed shades of pink peonies all together, and lovely to know they have come from your grandmother. Your second vase though, with the iris, is stunning – the way the leaves just appear to project from the vase is so effective. Well done to The Arranger, but of course the Cutter did a very good job of cutting too 😉

Mmm, those pinks all go beautifully together John. There is almost always heavy rain just as the peonies open, so cutting them to enjoy indoors is very sensible. Lovely iris too!

Thank you, Cathy. One of the reasons I like the new Itoh peonies so much is that they do not bend over to wind and rain.

Lovely colors the peony and spirea! Nice to see your spring. Here we are having very cold weather and everything is so late. My star magnolia has been battered by rain and frost has turned the lovely blossoms brown. Ah well…. eventually spring will get here.

Stupendous peonies; it is always sad when it rains just as they are flowering, sadly it happens all too often for me to grow them. I love the way your arranger has used the Iris – perfect.
