Weekly Photo Challenge: HERITAGE

The theme of this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is HERITAGE.

A wonderful and meaningful heritage in my family has been the sharing of plants. This photograph is of a Leucojum aestivum spring snowflake in my garden here in North Carolina. The bulbs were given to me by my Aunt Martha, who got them from my grandmother. They were given to my grandmother by her grandmother. I do hope I will be able to pass offsets of these bulbs to children and grandchildren…when and if the gardening bug bites them. Five generations and counting.

    What a great history to pass along, a real family connection. If the bug doesn’t bite maybe you can sneak a few plants into a garden or two when they’re not looking!

      I like your idea about sneaking in a bulb or two. The problem is that the younger generations don’t seem to stay in one place any more. What’s a granddaddy supposed to do?

    How nice to have such special plants. I have a plant from my grandparents that I have carried around for over 40 years. It has taken car, plane and FedEx trips across the country.

    This is so beautiful, what a fantastic tradition, a real blessing that is passed from generation to generation. I do agree that we do keep moving places, I too have had to give away all house plants with every move of ours, but that doesn’t stop us from buying plants at each new place that we have shifted and making a small garden indoor or outdoor or even a balcony one.
