Weekly Photo Challenge: UNUSUAL

The theme of this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is UNUSUAL.

This is ‘Gwenda,’ one of my favorite azaleas. It has the unusual characteristic of producing flowers of a different color on the same plant. It is a sporadic event across Gwenda azaleas, and sometimes shows up as a multicolored blossom. Regardless of the cause, it is, to my mind, a beautiful plant. If only the deer didn’t like it so much.

    Those deer! I lost the battle every time we lived in Virginia and finally resorted to just planting everything in pots on our deck, which was too high for them to reach.

    Beautiful, but not so nice about the deer. Why can’t they just be satisfied nibbling the grass?
